  • Go with the Flo? Lessons I have learned from surviving a hurricane….

It’s almost a year later…the storm has a new name…but I thought this post bore revisiting. Although I am not physically with my friends and family in Wilmington, NC this time, I definitely am there in spirit… Here’s hoping the Meteorologists are all wrong AGAIN and Wilmington is spared Dorian’s wrath like most of Florida was!!

    1.PEOPLE not possessions.

    2. If you live on the coast, buy a generator.

    3. Flashlights (and batteries) for EVERY room in your house.

    4. Keep a supply of non-perishable food items in your pantry AT ALL TIMES.

    5. Be patient, kind and helpful when you can.

    6. Never underestimate the power of nature.

    7. Water (and wine) will keep you from going insane.

    8. Hard boiled eggs last for almost a week unrefrigerated.

    9. In a pinch, evaporated milk makes scrambled eggs unbelievably creamy.

    10. Having a grill with charcoal is a necessity.

    11. Believe in the kindness and strength of the human race. We are capable of so much more than we know!

    12. THE SUN WILL COME OUT TOMORROW!

  • More storm cleanup with IOCC

Cleaning out a flooded home in Rocky Point today with IOCC and other volunteers. Imagine your whole life destroyed and laid waste out to the curb. So sad….

Children’s toys, clothing, and shoes amongst the rubble….

This home took on several feet of water. Mold was growing everywhere…all the way to the ceilings. All floors ruined…

Again, Jason and I are counting every blessing. Thank you Jesus!

  • Disaster Relief in Wilmington

Spent our day doing demolition on a home in Wilmington with water damage from Hurricane Florence.

We were so blessed to be spared during the storms and wanted to help out those less fortunate.

The home we visited today took on several inches of water and required demolition to remove damaged walls and floors. Several groups worked together today to get the home ready for rebuilding…volunteers all.

    Counting our blessings today!

  • Go with the Flo? Part 7

Came back to our home near ICW today to make sure everything was ok. Our house (and trees) have so far survived. Still VERY windy. Lots of families not so lucky.

Clean up is going to take some time!

  • Go with the Flo? She’s just a bitch…

Hello everyone…I cannot get any photos to upload because my cell service is so weak here. We are using cars to charge phones. We are cooking on our charcoal grill when weather permits…which hasn’t been often. It is day 4 and the rain has just now stopped. The wind is finally down to about 20mph this morning. As if to add insult to injury, a couple tornados passed nearby last night. The wind and rain were horrendous!! Our front entrance flooded.

We are all fine. Just sticky, tired and anxious. We have a Red Cross emergency radio that we are getting info on …that was the best Christmas present I ever bought! Love to all my readers, followers, friends and family. We are strong, we are family!

  • Go with the Flo? Part 6….time for Aunt Flo to get outta here!

Hurricane Florence has been spreading her wrath in downtown Wilmington since about midnight. The wind and rain continues here with no let up this morning…

Praying all our friends in the area are safe and our home in the Tides survived without damage.

  • Go with the Flo? Part 5

We’re in downtown Wilmington, NC away from the coast… the rain and wind have started. Florence is just starting to pick up steam here…

  • Go with the Flo? Part4

    Waiting….it’s almost the worst part….

    Even the dog is bored…

Winds close to 20 mph here, about 25mph near our house on the water. We are in a holding pattern…

  • Go with the Flo? Part 3

We’re all stocked up and watching the weather channel at our home away from home for the next few days.

Plenty of water, wine, canned goods, dry goods and beer.

    Dog food for the pups…

Lots of candles and flashlights, batteries, marine radio, life vests and charcoal for the bbq.

Also starting to cook things (like hard boiled eggs) that can survive several (5-7) days without refrigeration…

    Almost forgot….got the games, too

  • Go with the Flo? Part 2

We are all shuttered up and packing to leave to go inland.

. . .The tide is unusually high today despite it not being a full moon tide.

Predictions are changing on the minute…Florence is now thought to be heading a little further south and hanging around coastline longer…

    Keep us in your prayers!
