The up-and-coming Brooklands area has a few tricks up its sleeves. Busboys and Poets, Brookland Pint, & pizza, Steel Plate and Smith Public Trust. Had the occasion to enjoy dinner at Smith Public Trust this evening, and enjoy we did! Just like that picture, the chef is winking at us with his eclectic, adventuresome menu. The restaurant’s decor is also wink and nod “spare” but homey. We sampled the Pork Belly Bahn MI, the Public Burger, and the Austin Texas Street tacos and we were not disappointed by anything. Prices are reasonable and Happy Hour makes an early … Continue reading Smith Public Trust, D.C
One could live in a city like DC for years and barely make a dent in its eating scene. Although, every time we visit I get another chance to try! Toki Undergound anyone? Good timing and patience is a must at this tiny, no reservation gem in the H Street Corridor. Fortunately for us, we arrived at quarter to 5pm and were second in line! Quirky decor, loud music….let the games begin! Grab a stool, get a beer or cocktail and decide what type of wonderful house made noodles you would like. But first…. try an appetizer … Continue reading D.C. Eats
Whenever I return to the D.C. area, chances are that I will be visiting a restaurant of Jose Andres. They are dear to my heart and always spectacular. Today’s Mother’s Day dinner was no different. A wonderful cheese plate to begin…. Aceitunas de Ferran Adria….a tribute to the original molecular gastronomist/best chef in the world……liquid olives… Tortilla de patatas…. the classic Spanish tortilla… Flamenquines….a pork roll stuffed with cheese and deep fried…..wonderful! Finally, my favorite of the evening…Puntillitas de Cadiz…. Baby squid and beans in a green sauce topped with a fried egg…estupendos!! Although I neglected … Continue reading Mother’s Day with Jose!
I have been trying to find the recipe (a closely guarded secret) for the chicken wings prepared in our favorite Korean restaurant in Annandale, VA. “Halmoni” will NOT divulge the truth no matter how much you cajole her! I don’t … Continue reading Korean wings at halftime…better than the show!
Chi Mc, Chi Mc oh how I have missed you! When you think of Annandale, VA chicken wings don’t normally come to mind….but they should. This tiny strip mall restaurant is set back from the road in a corner so nondescript that I drove by it twice trying to find it the first time. Then, I am informed that the wings take 35 minutes to prepare! I almost made the biggest mistake of my life and walked out. A cool head prevailed and I waited it out while sipping a beer. Chi Mc Chicken and Beer will not prepare your … Continue reading The most wonderful wings in the world!
What would you call a place with house made charcuterie, pasta dishes, big steaks, outstanding empanadas, asian ribs and Moroccan-influenced nuances that looks like a garage filled with knick-knacks? I’ll call it delicious. Urban Butcher is a raucous, roller coaster ride of a place that delights the senses IF you choose wisely. You will not be disappointed by the display of meats and the hip, urban vibe. Likewise, any combination of meats and cheeses, served with a BIG slice of grilled bread, whole grain mustard and cornichons is sure to make you happy. Appetizers are eclectic. Mussels in a fiery … Continue reading Silver Spring gets sassy
